The oral surgery
study program is not a university based
postgraduate program, it is a 12-month
study program for dentists who have
special interest in oral surgery. It
consists of in-depth study, once a week
lectures on topics pertaining to oral
surgery practice. Lectures, case
demonstrations, case presentations,
hands-on experience, consultations and
discussions are among the activities of
the program. Examination, diagnosis and
treatment planning of oral surgery
patients, and development of sound
clinical judgment is emphasized in the
program.
Goals
- To provide a foundation of
professional knowledge associated
with surgical skills, to enable
dentists to diagnose and treat
competently the various disorders
related to the practice.
- To stimulate the dentists to
recall basic science information and
to correlate it with the disease
process occurring in and about the
oral cavity, particularly those
leading themselves to surgical care.
- To train dentists to examine
their case findings critically and
intelligently, and to diagnose with
competence.
- To guide dentists in developing
a sense of confidence in their own
skills and clinical judgment, and to
encourage the desire for continued
self-study and self-improvement.
- To help dentists become
familiar with and evaluate
critically the scientific
publications pertaining to oral
surgery.
- To filter out the dentists with
special interest in research.
- To train dentists to select
cases that lie within the limits of
their surgical ability and
experience, and to exclude or refer
those that they are not fully
competent to manage.
Objectives
- To administer a local anesthetic
effectively and safely.
- To be able to extract teeth in
uncomplicated cases and recover root
fragments affectively and efficient.

a prosthesis, which may entail bone
and soft tissue surgery.
- To be able to take care or
manage infections of the oral cavity
resulting from dental diseases.

operating room and capable of
managing the hospitalized oral
surgery patients.

and antibiotic medications, when
necessary, with confidence.

between oral and systemic disease
pathophysiology, to request medical
consultation when appropriate, and
